Mike and Barbara Jenkins from Greer, South Carolina would like you to meet Kaci!  Kaci is an energetic and playful three year old red and white border collie.  Check out this wonderful write-up written by her mom to introduce her to the world!

Kaci the Border Collie from South CarolinaHi, my name is KACI! (Aka Momma’s precious baby),  I am from South Carolina.  I was 7 weeks old when I was adopted from a Border Collie breeder. I live with my mom and dad and 2 sister kitties. My mom says that I am her favorite  puppy, but I am really a big girl! I am 3 years old now.  I know how to sit, lay, speak, shake, stay, back up, and read my mom’s mind. She says I am SO SMART! I can also kick my ball to you if you ask.  I have MANY tennis balls, and I know each of them personally by their smell. You can’t fool me by switching them out. (They are like my sheep).

red and white border collieSome of the things I like to do are: walking on trails (I try to find the biggest stick for my dad to throw!), anything out in the yard (I am a good helper to drag tree limbs after they are cut), I LOVE the water hose, for sure, car rides, my ‘Chuck-it’ flyer and tennis balls, of course.  Inside the house, I still play tennis ball fetch (my parents are cool to throw the ball in the house), the laser dot or anything that makes lights on the wall, taking a nap in my favorite red chair. I’m kind of quirky about my mom opening the drawer where she keeps the foil, or opening the cat food can for my sister…I get so excited! The vacuum cleaner makes me that way too! I know the names of some of my toys.  Mom tells me to go get “fluffy” or “gator” or “racoony”, and I bring them to her.  I also like to make up my own games like Backdoor Ball.  When my mom is busy in the kitchen, I drop a tennis ball at her feet (or in the dishwasher) and she tells me to “go get ready”, so I race thru my doggie door to the back yard and get in “ready” position and my mom comes to the door and chucks my ball to me! I bring it back and we start all over again! It’s so fun!

sleeping border collieAnother thing I love is thunder! It’s so exciting and doesn’t scare me at all, but sometimes my mom blocks my doggie door so I can’t be outside with the lightning.  I really don’t like bath time and I usually try to hide, but mom knows all my hiding places.  Once I get in the tub, I’m OK, but it is not something I would choose to do on purpose.  I know the sound of my daddy’s car and love to greet him when he comes home from work. He rubs my belly right away and tells me I’m his precious girl! I am the luckiest Border collie, ever!

Yesi would like you all to meet Mac who lives in California, USA.  She is a truly special dog who’s had a tough life having to deal with an aggressive form of idiopathic Epilepsy, which caused life-threatening seizures when she was eight years old.   The good news is that Mac’s doing much better these days and have become a beloved addition to Yesi’s family and a true friend.

mac the border collieHer name is Mac like the computer. She is almost 11 years old and I have had her since she was 8 months old. She was a neglected purebred puppy purchased to be a “good apartment dog” before being turned into rescue for obsessively chasing her tail. I adopted her a week later and she fell in love with our huge back yard and new family including a Labrador Retriever, Pitbull and several cats.

Unfortunately, Mac developed an aggressive form of idiopathic Epilepsy when she was 8 years old that up until recently was well controlled. She went into Status Epilepticus and was rushed to an emergency, specialty hospital where she spent 36 hours in intensive care where they finally broke her seizures. I was then allowed to transfer her to the vet hospital I work in. She was lifeless and weak. She couldn’t see, couldn’t eat, couldn’t walk or do anything. I basically had a very sick newborn baby on my hands. It took 2 weeks of intense love and rehab to bring my little girl back.  In the first picture, Mac is 6 weeks post-status and I finally think we have beaten this ordeal. She takes 3 different anti-spasmodic medications (9 pills in 4 very strict time periods) and other supplements to keep her seizure free. She has always been my example of a real Velcro dog but she is now my “super glue” girl. We are never apart. The attached before and after picture shows the difference those 2 intense weeks made in her life. She is truly my soulmate!

border collie dogWe are now 14 weeks post status and Mac is getting stronger every day. She has re-learned all her words and actions and still goes to work with me every day. She loves greeting clients as well as their pets. I know we won’t have her forever so I tell her I love her a hundred times a day and I squeeze her a little tighter and kiss her as much as I can. I always reassure her that mommy will always take care of her.We are so blessed to have this beautiful dog in our lives.

P. S. Here’s the latest picture of Mac at work… back to her normal self. Here she is visiting Ronnie, a Boxer puppy, rescued by one of our nurses at 3 days old. 🙂

David Rostrom would like to introduce you to Winston who is one smart, lovable, but mischievous Border Collie!

black white border collieWhat is the name of your border collie?
Winston

How old is Winston?
11 months old

How did Winston become part of your family? (adoption, breeder, etc…)
He became part of our family when we saw a photo from a breeder’s Facebook page.  We went to the breeder with the intent of meeting the blue eyed pup (and his siblings). Once there, we went through a gate, and he was the first of his litter to come running to us. It was meant to be.

black white border collieDoes Winston have any special talents or tricks?
Winston is smart for his age, and still learning many tricks. He can identify all his toys and loves to wave.

What is the one thing that you love the most about having a Border Collie as a pet?
We love how loyal Winston is, and the company he offers due to his parents working opposite shifts. He gets us out of the house and exploring.

black white border collieDo you have any interesting or funny stories to share about your Border Collie?
Whilst he was very young and still subject to mischief, Winston was confined to an area of the house whilst we were out for a long time. Within a day he learnt how to open the baby gate, and gain access to the rest of the house. Cable ties were then applied to the gate, and after watching daddy intently as they were being fixed on, soon learnt to bite through them to open the gate. More cable ties and an extra gate were put in place, and Winston simply jumped the lot. We had to give in and he has had free reign of the house since!
