Mojo is a senior border collie mix with a rare genetic condition called short spine syndrome. This video tells the tale of how this playful and gentle dog finally found a loving, new home after bouncing around from place to place. Her new owner, Robin, now calls Mojo her own after losing one of her other dogs last year. All of this was made possible by Julie LeRoy, who also has a short spined dog named Cuda, as she introduced Mojo to Robin for re-homing.  No doubt that this is a wonderful, feel-good story that you must watch!

Hero Border Collie Saves Man From Vicious Bear Attack

Here’s a great story out of Canada about a border collie who saved his owner’s life.  Reid Roberts  was running with his border collie, Pacer, in Forest for the World, a provincial park in Prince George, British Columbia, when they encountered a black bear and two cubs that were in the nearby bushes.  The mother bear immediately came at Roberts, who quickly realized that he couldn’t get away without a fight.

Luckily, Pacer sprang into action, barking and biting the bear and managing to eventually lead it down the trail and away from Roberts, who suffered a hand wound and other scrapes and claws from the encounter.  Roberts was then able to run to safety, but was obviously very worried about his dog.  Luckily, Pacer didn’t get hurt and even managed to find his way to their friend’s home where the two were eventually reunited.

“Pacer is fine and truly my hero,” Roberts wrote on his Facebook page, noting the dog typically runs ahead as a look out for moose or bears when the pair is on trails. “I never run without him.”

In the end, it seems that both dog and owner were very lucky to have escaped such a frightening encounter.  But, what’s even more clear is that Reid Roberts wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for his faithful border collie, Pacer.

UPDATE: We’re sad to announce that on Jan 3, 2018, Piper passed away after a brave battle with cancer. This post is kept in loving memory of Piper, who captured the hearts of border collie fans all over the world. RIP Piper…  🙁

Friends, . It is with the ultimate sadness I must report the passing of my best friend and love of my life. . Piper passed away tonight peacefully in my arms after fighting a year-long battle with prostate cancer. He fought valiantly, and we did everything we could, but sometimes life just has to take its course. . Today, Piper enjoyed a pain-free day, filled with love from family and friends, mostly his fellow airport employees. He played soccer, got some much deserved butt scratches and yes, he chased away one last snowy owl as he sailed into the night. . As I hope was plainly evident, we are grateful. Grateful to have done what we loved for three years and had a whole hell of a lot of fun doing it. Mostly though, we’re grateful for all of your support. It’s what’s really helped us through the dark days. . As we leave you tonight, know that Piper is in a better place. I only ask for your patience as I take time to tend to my shattered heart. . Lastly, as a final act of true class, the flag you see here draped over Piper’s body flew today at @uscg Air Station Traverse City and was taken down, folded and presented to us and a token of their love. Please join me in thanking the men and women, past and present, of Air Station Traverse City for their awesomeness. Piper and I are forever in your debt. . With love, . Brian & Piper

Meet Piper, a border collie whose sole job is wildlife patrol along the runway at Michigan’s Cherry Capital Airport. Birds and other animals are notorious for causing problems on the tarmac. This is where Piper comes in! Wearing ski goggles to prevent debris from getting in his eyes, Piper not only does his job well, but looks cool doing it! What an amazing dog!
